The UL Vikings failed to end the regular season unbeaten this Sunday, as they lost out 22-14 at the hands of the Dublin Rebels.
The loss was made all the more frustrating for the Limerick side, as they saw what would have been the tying touchdown called back for a penalty late in the game.
They would have qualified straight into a home semi-final had they managed to defeat the Rebels or lose to them by less than six points, however, a tough wildcard game against the Cork Admirals now awaits the UL based side.
The last time the Vikings met the Admirals was back in April at the UL Sports Ground, the home side recording a 23-22 win over their Munster rivals in a closely contested battle.
Although the loss will be massively disappointing for UL, the quest for a fourth Shamrock Bowl title is still very much alive, and they’ll take confidence in what they’ve accomplished in the regular season.
