Limerick Camogie know exact requirements to reach All Ireland 1/4 Final

John Tuohy’s side now know exactly what they need to do in order qualify for the knockout stages.

The weekend results in group two of the All Ireland Camogie Championship means Limerick know exactly what is required to get out of Group 2 and into the 1/4 finals.

Round 4 Results:

Cork who were already qualified, rubber stamped their semi final spot with a 1-13 to 0-11 points win over Offaly. While Cork were tipped to beat the faithful county, the fact that there was only 5 points in the difference could yet prove crucial.

Limerick suffered a 19-point defeat to their Munster foes in the second round of games and as a result have the worst scoring difference of the four sides with a chance of taking the two qualifying spots.

Ideally Tipperary would have done Limerick a favour on Saturday and beaten Wexford meaning a Limerick win on the final day would see them through. Wexford however had other ideas and beat Tipperary on a scoreline of 2-12 to 2-07 to leave the premier hopes hanging by a thread.

What Limerick need to do.

First and foremost, if Limerick beat Wexford and Tipperary can beat Offaly then Limerick and Wexford will qualify. That is the simplest and easiest scenario to understand.

If Limerick beat Wexford by more than 7 points then they will finish level on points and Limerick will qualify due to a better scoring difference irrespective of the the Offaly – Tipperary game.

If Limerick beat Wexford by less than 7 points then, focus switches to the Offaly game. Currently Offaly are 7 points better off than Limerick on scoring difference. In order to get ahead of Offaly, Limerick need to better the faithful county’s result. A draw or a win for Offaly and a win for Limerick would see Limerick through.

Victories for both Offaly and Limerick would mean that because of the scoring difference, Limerick would have to better Offaly’s result by 8 points or more to jump ahead of them. If that were to happen, Limerick would leapfrog Wexford and Offaly into 2nd place and the remaining spot would be between Offaly and Wexford.

Confused yet? Well here is another permutation for you!! Tipperary are also still in the running if only just. If they beat Offaly and Wexford beat limerick then 3 teams will be tied on 3 points each and again the scoring diffeeence comes into play.

Have the calculators ready for Saturday evening!!!
