WATCH: “We’re good, but not perfect” – John Kiely shares his thoughts ahead of Sunday’s Munster Final

Limerick manager John Kiely shared his thoughts ahead of Limerick’s Munster final class with Tipperary this Sunday. Although Kiely seemed optimistic about the week ahead, he did express some concerns surrounding his squads health.

Kiely relayed his admiration for the Munster Championship as well as the mood within the squad for the upcoming decider. Although Kiely acknowledges the challenge that Tipperary will bring come Sunday, he remains confident in his squads talent and preparation for the fixture.

“We’ve always embraced the Munster Championship as being a really valued completion that we’re thrilled to be still involved in, and we hope that we produce a performance of merit for the occasion that’s in it on Sunday.”

Limerick are contesting a third consecutive Munster final and will be aiming to become the first Treaty side to win three on the trot since the 1930’s.

After appearing in just three Munster finals in the twenty years prior to his appointment, John Kiely says he and his side are relishing the chance to appear in Munster’s showpiece event.

“We’re good but we’re not perfect. We expect to be fine but at the same time it is a bit early in the week to say they will be 100%. All going well they will be.”

“We are focused on Sunday for what it is, a Munster final. They are huge occasions for players. We spent years where we couldn’t qualify for a Munster final so we are very appreciative to have qualified for another one. We want to make sure we recognise that honour of contesting the Munster final and hopefully we produce a performance worthy of being there.

“They are all of huge importance to a player and they are seminal moments in any players career and days you will never forget.”

Although it was too early in the week to drop hints about who will line out in green come Sunday, Mike Casey’s name was mentioned, as an additional injury was picked up by the Na Piarsaigh full-back and could see him sidelined for an additional five weeks.

“Mike Casey had a bit of a setback when he came in last Tuesday – he has an unrelated injury to the same knee unfortunately. The ACL is fully intact and perfect, it’s just another injury to that knee but not very serious and we would be hopeful he can make a full recovery in a matter of weeks.”
