Pat Donnelly – “This is about the lads in the backroom team, all the subs, the lads in the extended panel, working very hard.”
After reaching the final with relative ease, Limerick were made to work for their Munster Title last night by a dogged Cork side that refused to give in. It was the just rewards for Pat Donnelly and his management team that have given this side the freedom to express themselves and bring back a brand of hurling to Limerick that excites the crowd. After the game we caught up with Donnelly for a few words of reflection,
“Delighted, absolutely thrilled, I’m a bit hoarse. Very very tight, great to win a hard game. we had two comfortable games up to now so didn’t know how the lads would react in a tough game But they stood up and held out well in the finish.”
“Its all about working and keeping working. No matter how good a fella is he has to work because if you don’t work, you wont win and we have lads that work regardless of what standard they’re at.”
“There is a great spirit in them lads and they never give up.”
Donnelly will be eager for his side to put their head down and continue the good work in preparation for an All-Ireland Semi-Final clash against Galway on August 19. This side has the potential to go all the way and Donnelly wasn’t holding back in his praise of the efforts of anyone involved in and with the squad.
“I’m going to put it on record. This is not about Pat Donnelly, this is about the lads in the backroom team, all the subs, the lads in the extended panel, working very hard, they don’t get any publicity here tonight, they don’t get any back slapping or any of that so for all them.”
“For our coach Mikey Kiely, our selectors Mossy O’Brien and Brian Foley, great for them, delighted for them. They put huge work into it so I never want to forget them.”
