Blow for Doon as All-Ireland winner suffers season ending injury

Star forward Barry Murphy will miss the remainder of the season after suffering a cruciate ligament injury in Doon’s round one win over Patrickswell.

The news will come as a huge blow for the player who featured off the bench in his first All-Ireland final against Cork in August.

Murphy will join fellow Limerick forward Peter Casey in rehabbing the injury with Casey suffering the same fate in the All-Ireland final.

The Doon captain has two All-Ireland medals to his name, missing the 2020 success, and was centre-forward on the 2017 side that won the U21 All-Ireland.

Murphy was key for Doon in their round one win over Patrickswell clipping in with a couple of scores before falling foul to the ACL injury in the second minute of additional time.

This is the second year in three that will see Murphy miss the majority of the club season after a hamstring injury sustained with Limerick saw him ruled out for the 2019 championship.

Doon face Ahane this weekend where a win will see them straight into the semi-finals. A loss to Ahane will see the fortunes of each side in group 2 come down to score difference with Doon beating Patrickswell and the ‘Well defeating Ahane.
