Exceptional Mungret St Pauls end 31-year wait as they return to senior ranks after powering past Cappamore in Premier Intermediate Final

Mungret will ply their trade in the senior ranks for the first time since 1990 next year as they beat Cappamore in the PIHC Final.

The City side were in outstanding form from start to finish and were full value for a 4-17 to 1-12 win in the TUS Gaelic Grounds.

Mungret singled their intent early on with Brian O’Meara grabbing their first goal after eight minutes. That put them seven clear with their lead 1-6 t to 0-1 at the first water break.

Their second arrived after 21 with Niall Mulcahy’s effort putting them nine clear. Ronan Hanly replied with a brilliant solo goal for Cappamore, but it did little to derail the Mungret train.

The gap was ten at the interval as they took a 2-12 to 1-5 lead into the dressing rooms.

Mungret grabbed the first two points of the second half but a flurry of frees gave Cappamore a lifeline. That was until the brilliant Liam Lynch set Mulcahy free for his second on the stroke of the waterbreak to give them a 3-14 to 1-9 advantage.

From here they cruised to victory with Brian Barry sealing the win with his fourth goal.

Mungret will now ply their trade in the senior ranks for the first time since 1990 while Cappamore will look to follow in their footsteps by avenging a final defeat from 12 months previous.
