Kilmallock picked up a 12th ever Limerick SHC win on Sunday as they beat Patrickswell 1-24 to 0-19 in the TUS Gaelic Grounds.
In a contest that ebbed and flowed throughout, Kilmallock eventually put daylight between the sides with Oisin O’Reilly’s 53rd minute goal put them four clear.
From here, the Balbec eased to victory with the winning margin eight in the end.
Touching on their first success since 2017, Tony Considine described the win as “brilliant.”
One of the standouts for Considine’s men was Graeme Mulcahy as the All-Star forward shot over 0-7 from play in a man of the match performance.
After the game, Mulcahy spoke about the importance of the win in helping to inspire the next generation of Kilmallock hurlers.
“It’s all about inspiring the next generation.”
Like Mulcahy, Barry Hennessy picked up a fourth SHC winners medal as the goalkeeper kept a clean sheet on the biggest day of the year.
Alluding to their win over Ballybrown in a winner takes all clash in round two, Hennessy spoke about the fine margins in the championship and the Balbec’s growth during the campaign.
“We went from a puck of a ball from relegation to the county final.”
