The Limerick Sport Eagles’ and the Limerick Celtics’ seasons are finished up with both teams falling short of the finals
After an impressive season of basketball throughout, the Limerick Sports Eagles qualified in third of the South Conference to book their play off spot while the Celtics just missed out.
The Sports Eagles finished third in their conference behind IT Carlow (11-5) and the UCC Demons (15-1) while Fr Mathews rounded out the top four with six successive wins helping them leapfrog the Celtics who mised out.
In the quarter-final, the Sport Eagles were paired with Grand Hotel Malahide (9-5) who were runners up in the North Conference.
In the quarter final in Dublin, the home side proved too strong with a 102-73 win to end the Sport Eagles season. That win booked a last four tie for Malahide who were joined their by UCC Demons, IT Carlow and EJ Sligo All-Stars.
UCC were victorious over Malahide to seal their place in the final where they will be joined by EJ Sligo All-Stars who defeated IT Carlow. Both sides are assured of promotion regardless of the outcome of the final.
A disappointing end to a promising season for both sides who will be keen to build looking ahead to the return later this year.
