Gearoid Hegarty named Hurler of the Month following All-Ireland final exploits

The St Patricks man won his second All-Ireland final man of the match award in his fourth appearance on the stage.

Unsurprisingly, Gearoid Hegarty has been named the PwC GAA/GPA Player of the Month winner for July/August.

Hegarty shot 1-5 from play in an otherworldly performance in July’s All-Ireland final as Limerick completed a historic three in a row.

The St Patricks man was in irresistible in Croke Park, firing past Eoin Murphy inside four minutes as he set out his stall early on.

He would go on to add five points to the goal, each as good as the next with his final act coming in injury time as he fired over from inside his own half.

It was a second man of the match performance from Hegarty in an All-Ireland final, adding to the 2020 decider while he plundered 2-2 in the 2021 final giving him a total of 3-14 in finals.

Shane Walsh, who kicked 0-9 in Galway’s losing effort to Kerry in the All-Ireland Football final was named the football winner while Katie Nolan (Kilkenny) and Niamh O’Sullivan (Meath) were winners of the PwC GPA Women’s Player of the Month Awards for camogie and football respectively.

Uachtarán Cumann Lúthchleas Gael, Larry McCarthy said:

“Gearóid Hegarty has acquired an enviable reputation of a man who produces his best on the big stage, and this was the case again last month in the final against Kilkenny.
