Round Up | Patrickswell book quarter-final spot while relegating Adare, draws elsewhere edge Kilmallock into last four

The knockout stages for the Limerick SHC were confirmed this afternoon following the group one games.

The fight for the Daly Cup is down to six after the final round of games in the Limerick SHC were played over the weekend.

On Sunday afternoon, Patrickswell became the final team to confirm their quarter-final place while their victory over Adare relegated the West side.

Kilmallock joined Na Piarsaigh in the semi-finals with their draw over Doon enough to advance on scoring difference.

Ahane’s stalemate with table toppers Nap maintained their group one status for a fourth successive year.

Yesterday, Kildimo Pallaskenry and South Liberties booked their knockout berths.

In Fedamore, Doon and Kilmallock played out a 1-21 to 0-24 draw which kept Kilmallock ahead of their East opponents on scoring difference. There was nothing to separate the teams at the half before Pat Ryan opened the second half with a goal. Doon went six clear but conceded as many on the bounce with Darragh O’Donovan sent off. Doon rallied late on to earn the draw but it wasn’t enough to usurp the Balbec who go straight into the semi-finals. Doon will be in quarter-final action on the weekend of October 8/9.

Patrickswell left it late to see off Adare with their 1-21 to 2-12 win booking their quarter-final spot and relegating Adare who were promoted last year. A Patrick Kirby goal helped Patrickswell into a six point lead before the West outfit drew level with a pair of quickfire goals from Willie Griffin and John Fitzgibbon. The Well hit three unanswered to finish the half but Adare were level with ten to play despite a host of wides. Led by Diarmuid Byrnes, Patrickswell pulled clear late on with seven of the last eight scores to move into the quarter finals.

Elsewhere, Ahane’s draw with Na Piarsaigh pulled them ahead of Adare and ensured there would be no need of a relegation play-off. A Tom Morrissey goal set the tone five minutes as they thundered into the contest. A Kevin Downes green flag reduced the deficit to three but Ahane responded to lead 1-15 to 1-8 at the half. The East side kept their distance for much of the second period as Na Piarsaigh slowly started to reduce the margin. With five to play, Peter Casey had it back to three and Kevin Downes brought the teams level in extra time. Nap briefly went ahead but two from Morrissey looked to have won it for Ahane. Nap did find the leveller but it couldn’t for little for either team with the draw good enough for Ahane to stay safe.
