PREVIEW | Limerick JAFC winners Castlemahon begin Munster journey against Waterford’s Shamrocks

Castlemahon defeated neighbours Feenagh-Kilmeedy 3-10 to 0-7 last weekend to win the Limerick JAFC title.

For the first time since 2013, Castlemahon have a provincial championship journey to look forward to as they host Shamrocks in the Munster Championship quarter-final this Saturday.

The West Limerick club secured their return to the Limerick IFC ranks, four years on from their relegation, after their Junior A Football Final triumph over Feenagh-Kilmeedy on Sunday.

It was a comprehensive final win to say the least for Castlemahon who were seven points to the good by half-time. They added a further two goals in the second half to put the game to bed and bring the Limerick JAFC title back for the first time since 2013.

Path to the Quarter-Final

Castlemahon

  • R1: 2-8 : 1-13 v Cappamore (L)
  • R2: 6-14 : 2-7 v Monaleen (W)
  • R3: 4-7 : 0-8 v Monagea (W)
  • R4: 2-12 : 0-10 v Mountcollins (W)
  • R5: 1-10 : 0-8 v Feenagh-Kilmeedy (W)
  • SF: 0-17 : 0-8 v Cappamore (W)
  • Final : 3-10 : 0-7 v Feenagh-Kilmeedy (W)

Their Munster quarter-final opponents were victorious in their Waterford JFC final bout with St. Molleran’s a fortnight ago, with the score ending 3-11 to 1-6. It was an incredible fifth consecutive junior final for Shamrock’s who had fallen short on each occasion until their victory this year.

No Waterford side are yet to make it to the Munster Junior Football Championship final since its inauguration in 2001 with Shamrocks just two wins away from history.

Meanwhile, Castlemahon will have 2013 on the back of their minds, when they were runners-up to Kerry’s Keel with the score ending 0-14 to 0-4.

A win for either team on Saturday will give provide the opportunity to face either Fossa or Listry from Kerry in the semi-final which is scheduled to take place on November 26th, with the final following two weeks after.

Castlemahon face Shamrocks at 1:15pm this Saturday in Feohanagh-Castlemahon in the Munster Junior A Football Championship quarter-final.
