The two teams were tied 1-5 to 0-8 after extra-time in their Munster semi-final which lead to their dramatic penalty shootout.
Na Piarsaigh booked their place in the Munster Intermediate Football Championship final following a penalty shootout victory over Tipperary side Ballina on Sunday.
It’s the first Munster final that the Caherdavin side’s footballers will make an appearance in in their history following their semi-final heroics which was tied level 1-5 to 0-8 AET.
Dylan Cronin got the all-important goal for Na Piarsaigh in the first-half and the game remained level from there on, with goalkeeper Eoghain Sherlock also saving a penalty in normal time.
And it was Sherlock that provided the heroics in the shootout as his double save ensured a 4-2 victory on penalties for Na Piarsaigh and he admitted that he was nervous between the sticks for his maiden football shootout.
“It was nervous to be honest, I was nervous in there. I don’t think I’ve ever played one in football, soccer I might have been in a few but it’s different even for the penalty takers, it’s a lot for us as a group, I don’t think we’ve ever done it before.
“During the week as well in training they were all taking the mick out of me, I couldn’t save any of the penalties they were trying to take but yeah I got lucky there to save two I think!”
After their Munster semi-final defeat in 2014, Na Piarsaigh will finally play in their first Munster Final, meaning both the Senior and Intermediate finals will feature Limerick teams.
Kerry outfit Rathmore stand in the way of the Caherdavin side and Munster glory and although they will be underdogs, Sherlock believes they should be very confident heading into the game.
“We should have a lot of confidence going into the final, I don’t see why we shouldn’t and that’s it we’ll do our best, it’s all we can do. We’ve training again Wednesday and we’ll give it our all.”
Na Piarsaigh face Rathmore on December 10/11 in the Munster Intermediate Club Championship Final.
