The Magpies will now face Kerrins O’Rahilly’s in a fortnight’s time to contest for the Munster Senior Football title.
A stunning extra-time performance from Newcastle West earned them a place in the Munster Senior Club Football Championship as they beat Clonmel Commercials 1-16 to 1-11.
The teams were tied 0-13 to 1-10 at the end of normal time, thanks to a last gasp point from Ruadhan O’Connor to send the semi-final to extra time.
Emmet Rigter was the man responsible for the all-important goal which turned the game on its head and helped book Newcastle West’s place in the final.
Newcastle West opened the scoring after three minutes and the game was relatively back and forth for the opening 20 minutes but Jimmy Lee’s side pushed into a 0-5 to 0-2 lead after they began to get a foothold on the game heading into the interval.
However, in added time of the first half, Commercials notched 1-2 with Sean O’Connor hitting the back of the net for the Tipperary outfit. Newcastle West spilt the posts just before the whistle, to bring the score to 1-4 to 0-6 at the interval.
A Cian Sheehan point levelled the scoring after two minutes of the second half but Clonmel regained their lead shortly after.
The teams continued to battle point for point and they remained level throughout with Newcastle West a point to the good heading into the end of normal time.
But points from Sean O’Connor and Kevin Fahey gave Commercials a late lead and it looked as if they would progress to the final until Ruadhan O’Connor’s point drew the sides level again after eight minutes of additional time.
In extra-time, Newcastle West took control of the game. A free kick four minutes put them into the lead and Emmet Rigter hit the back of the net before the end of the first half to put one foot in the Munster final.
A couple of more point for NCW would seal the deal for them and attentions now turn to the 11th of December as they contest the 2022 Munster Final with Kerrins O Rahilly’s.
