Limerick duo named on the Hurling Team of the Week following Wexford win

Limerick are one of four counties with two players on the squad with Dublin, Kilkenny and Tipperary also with a pair.

Limerick have had two players named on the GAA.ie Hurling Team of the Week after helping the side into the league semi-finals with a win over Wexford in the TUS Gaelic Grounds.

Richie English and Diarmaid Byrnes are selected to the team for the first time this year with both defenders getting their name on the scoresheet on Sunday.

English was the first Limerick player off the mark, combining with other corner back Mike Casey to slot over. The Doon man was equally solid at the other end as a launchpad for attack.

In front of him, the reigning Hurler of the Year was at his brilliant best in his second start of the year, firing over 0-4 with two coming from play.

Limerick are one of four counties with two players on the squad with Dublin, Kilkenny and Tipperary also with a pair. Conor Cooney (Galway) and Billy Drennan (Kilkenny) are named for the second week running.

There are eleven counties represented with Laois, Kildare, Lancashire, Kerry, Mayo, Galway and Clare also providing a player.

It moves Limerick’s tally of players named on the team of the week to seven after Tom Morrissey was joined by brother Dan and Barry Nash following the Salthill win over Galway with Micheal Houlihan & Kyle Hayes on the second round team. Morrissey was chosen for the second week after the victory against Westmeath.
