Clinical Tribesmen break Treaty United’s winning streak

Treaty United 0-3 Galway United

Treaty United’s four game winning streak came shuddering to a halt as they were defeated by Galway United on a disappointing evening in Markets Field.

It wa a night where the home support were expecting something special, but much went wrong for Tommy Barrett’s side. They would finish the game with 10-men, as Andy Spain walked for a second-yellow card on 60 minutes.

Treaty boss Tommy Barrett made three changes for this clash, all enforced. Out went William Armshaw, Conor Barry and Ben O’Riordan (suspension), and in came Martin Coughlan, Colin Conroy and Stephen Christopher. The latter filling in at right-back.

The Galway XI featured two Limerick men, former Treaty Untied midfielder Ed McCarthy, while Killian Brouder was at the heart of the Galwegian defence.

The opener arrived from the penalty spot, after Andy Spain was adjudged to have handled the ball in penalty area, which the home side strongly disputed. Hurley sent Shane Hallahan the wrong way. This after 20 minutes of action, where Treaty had done the early probing.

A killer second arrived through winger Francley Lomboto, who arrived late at the back post, gave Treaty a mountain to climb.

Then, Spain tripped Ed McCarthy – the Limerick native – and received his marching orders.

Former Limerick FC keeper, Brendan Clarke was rarely worked, as he eased to a ninth clean sheet of the season.

The final moment of action came from sub Ibrahim Keita, who netted from the six-yard box in the 90th minute.

Up next for Treaty is a home tie with Finn Harps, who were defeated by Waterford also on Friday evening. That tie is set for 26th of May.
