Five Limerick players named on the GAA.ie Hurling Team of the Week after Munster Final heroics

Up top, Aaron Gillane was simply unmarketable in the contest, hitting over 1-10, with a goal and three of that coming from play as he took the charge to the Banner.

Limerick made history on Sunday afternoon, becoming the first team from the county to make it five Munster Championship titles on the trot, going one better than the team of 1933-’36.

And the Shannonsiders are rewarded with five players on the GAA.ie Hurling Team of the Week after their incredible victory over Clare in the TUS Gaelic Grounds.

Nickie Quaid, Kyle Hayes, Tom Morrissey, David Reidy and Aaron Gillane are selected onto the fifteen with Leinster champions Kilkenny having the same amount chosen.

Nickie Quaid was imperious in goal, with his puck outs on point throughout the contest. The Effin native could do little to prevent the Clare foal with Mark Rodgers stealing in after a long range effort rebounded off the post into the path of the Scariff man. Elsewhere, Quaid was a figure of coolness in the TUS Gaelic Grounds cauldron.

Kyle Hayes continued his fine form at wing back where he was a constant outlet, chipping in with a brilliant score. The Kildimo Pallaskenry native then switched to centre-back when Declan Hannon was forced off with injury.

Tom Morrissey chipped in with three from play, taking his tally this championship to 0-15 so far in the championship this year. Last hour replacement, Reidy excelled at centre-forward, firing over three crucial scores in the second half after a titanic battle with John Conlon.

Up top, Aaron Gillane was simply unmarketable in the contest, hitting over 1-10, with a goal and three of that coming from play as he took the charge to the Banner.

Defeated finalists Clare have three on the team while Galway have a pair after their loss to Kilkenny.
