Things have gotten very rocky for Treaty of late, with the Limerick outfit not picking up a single victory in their last five games.
We have reached the mid-way point of the season, and the reality is, it has been a very poor start for Treaty United. The Shannonsiders’ record only betters Longford Town and newcomers Kerry FC, as they sit in eighth place in the First Division.
Tommy Barrett’s side have picked up five wins, five draws, and most disappointingly nine losses across their nineteen games so far, and most frustrating is the fact that some of those draws should have been wins in reality. Things have gotten very rocky for Treaty of late, with the Limerick outfit not picking up a single victory in their last five games.
Going back to the start of the season, the opening night was one of despair, as Bray snatched a last minute winner to appease their tiny number of travelling fans. Treaty failed to pick up a win in their first six games, although back in March they held a 2-0 lead away to Athlone, only for the hosts to score 82′ and 98′ goals to share the points.
United finally found their first win of the season in April, defeating Longford Town 3-2. who are one of just two sides below the Shannonsiders. Barrett’s men recorded a 4-0 win over Kerry FC in April, and this would be the start of a four game win streak, where they scored twelve goals and conceded just one.
This purple patch means that although they sit low in the table, United are just five points off the playoff places, but form has taken a massive hit recently.
The last five games has seen Treaty ship fifteen goals, and they have only found the net once themselves, with the most demoralising result coming in a 7-0 loss away to Waterford. The break has come at the right time for Barrett’s side, who seemed to be slipping further and further away from playoff contention.
Now, they have a chance to rest, reset, and go again next week, when they face Athlone, who they have beaten once already this season.
From a Treaty United perspective, there is still a lot to play for this season, but their poor form needs to be arrested and soon.
Treaty United travel to Athlone Town this Friday night with kick off at 7.45pm.
