Limerick trio nominated for July’s Hurler of the Month award

The Hurler of the Month for July will reside in Limerick as will the Liam MacCarthy with each of the nominees from the Shannonside.

Limerick trio Cian Lynch, Aaron Gillane and Kyle Hayes have been nominated for the PwC/GPA Hurling Player of the Month for July after a stellar pair of performances.

All three were key to Limerick’s month as they saw off Leinster finalists Galway before defeating Kilkenny in the All-Ireland final in July.

The success completed a record equaling four in a row for the Shannonsiders with more accolades set to go their way.

Aaron Gillane was one of the key men in the semi-final win over Galway, bagging 2-6 in a stunning display as they beat the Tribesmen by nine-points. He added 0-6 more in the final and is the bookies favourite to win the Hurler of the Year Award.

His club mate Cian Lynch was back to his best in the two Croke Park outings, his first starts since the second round of the Munster round robin where he struggled with injury. Lynch showed flashes of brilliance in the semi-final before being voted man of the match in the final where he was instrumental as captain, becoming the first man from Patrickswell to lift the Liam MacCarthy cup.

Kyle Hayes continued an excellent season into the Croke Park encounters, hitting the target on both occasions in a rejigged Limerick defence as he was named by the Sunday Game panel as the hurler of the year owing to his consistency throughout the season.

The Hurler of the Month will be chosen by intercounty players.
