Fr Caseys secure second spot as Claughaun resigned to relegation play off

Fr Caseys wrapped up second spot with victory over Kildimo Pallaskenry who finish third while Oola and St Kierans see their campaign come to an end.

The final round of the Limerick Senior Football Championship proved little in the way of shocks fro group one as Newcastle West, Fr Caseys and St Kierans all picked up wins to round out their group campaigns.

The results mean that Claughaun will contest the relegation final with Ballylanders following their narrow loss to St Kierans.

Meanwhile, Fr Caseys wrapped up second spot with victory over Kildimo Pallaskenry who finish third. Oola and St Kierans see their campaign come to an end.

Newcastle West rounded out the groups with a 100% record as they overcame Oola 1-17 to 0-6 with Iain Corbett bagging the only goal of the game.

The West side were comfortable at 0-9 to 0-4 at the interval before the strike from Corbett with ten to play pushed their lead into double figures.

St Kierans added to their round one win to ensure safety, seeing off Claughaun 1-10 to 0-9, Alan Daly netting from the spot in the first half.

It was nip and tuck only for Daly’s effort with Kierans leading by the minimum at the turn of ends. That margin remained until ten to play but the West men kicked on in the closing stages to condemn Cluaghaun to a relegation play-off.

Elsewhere, Fr Caseys confirmed a runner up finish with a 1-10 to 0-10 win over Kildimo Pallaskenry. Rory O’Brien goaled with the opening score of the contest and that remained the difference to the final whistle.

The Abbeyfeale men were four to the good at the interval and were able to keep the 2021 Intermediate champions at arms length throughout with both already assured of qualification prior to throw in.

The group stages of the SFC rounds out tomorrow afternoon with three games in group two.
