Chris Farrell on possible Ireland call up – “I just need to focus on what I’m doing in the red of Munster.”

Centre Chris Farrell joined up with Munster this season following three seasons with French Top 14 side Grenoble.

Farrell impressed during his time under Bernard Jackman at Grenoble, laying claim to the number 13 jersey.

It’s no secret that the 24-year-old will have a stronger chance to represent his country as a result of his move home but Farrell says he must firstly focus on the job at hand at provincial level.

“I’ve got a lot to do here in the red of Munster before I start thinking of moving in any other direction. There’s a lot more to come from me, so I just need to focus on what I’m doing in the red of Munster.”

The Fivemiletown man has said that he expected a step up in intensity when moving from France and that was one of the reasons for deciding to join up with the Champions Cup semi-finalists.

“It’s definitely different (to France), the intensity of everything is up there. Our days are a lot longer here but I knew what to expect, I spoke to people before I came here, it’s what I wanted to come for.”

Farrell came into Munster almost a year after the opening of the province’s new High Performance Centre, the Belfast man says it’s a step up from what he had been used to at Grenoble.

“They’re (the facilities) definitely better than what we had in Grenoble. They’re top class it’s a pleasure to come in here, I look forward to coming in every day”. From food to recovery, it’s all fantastic and has definitely helped with the preseason.”

The 6’5″ centre is closing in on his first game for Munster at Thomond Park when Rassie Erasmus’ side welcome the Toyota Cheetahs to Limerick for the first time. A bumper crowd is expected for the historic night. Farrell will be used to the noise with the Stade des Alpes often boasting large attendances, especially when the more prominent French sides come to town.

“In Grenoble it’s actually pretty good, for the big games we would have got 20 thousand (fans) for the Racing’s and Clermont’s, those big games. Our average attendance was about 15 thousand.”
