Aaron Gillane named as GAA.ie Hurler of the Week following devastating Waterford display

The Patrickswell dynamo is the second man from the club to win the award this year.

Aaron Gillane has been named the GAA.ie Hurler of the Week following his exploits in Limerick’s three point win over Waterford on Saturday evening.

Gillane was in irresistible form, hitting over 0-13 on the night with six of those coming from play as he tormented the Deise rearguard.

Gillane beat out Clare’s John Conlon and Dublin’s Donal Burke who helped their sides to championship victories over Tipperary and Wexford respectively.

The Patrickswell man received 4,362 votes on the GAA’s Official Instagram page which put him ahead of Conlon (3,995) and Burke (2,617).

Gillane follows in the footsteps of Patrickswell teammate Diarmaid Byrnes who picked up the award last week after scoring six points in their round one defeat of Cork.

Byrnes and Gillane were Limerick’s sole representatives on the latest edition of the GAA.ie Hurling Team of the Week.

Limerick are on a down week before they welcome Tipperary to the TUS Gaelic Grounds on May 8 where they can guarantee their place in the All-Ireland series.
