Aaron Gillane’s goal proves crucial as Patrickswell upset Na Piarsaigh

The Limerick trio had the final three scores for Patrickswell who held on for the win and a crucial two points.

Patrickswell got their 2023 Limerick SHC campaign off to the perfect start with a 2-15 to 1-16 win over champions Na Piarsaigh.

A second half Aaron Gillane goal was ultimately the difference, the Hurler of the Year elect winning a puck out, giving a one two with Calvin Carroll before firing high into the corner past Shane Dowling.

That goal pushed the Well three clear after the battled from a one point half time deficit.

Indeed the writing looked on the wall ealry on for Patrickswell as Peter Casey netted inside 40 seconds.

The All-Ireland final man of the match had 1-2 inside eight minutes but Patrickswell eventually got to grips with him as he wouldn’t score for the remainder.

Instead it was Carroll making in roads at the other end to briefly put the Well in front.

The sides went score for score for the reminder of the first period as it ended 1-8 to 1-7 to the Caherdavin men.

Diarmaid Byrnes and Cian Lynch were both among the scorers as the Well hit back. Gillane’s goal gave them daylight but led by Ronan Lynch (0-6, 4f, 2sl), Nap quickly cancelled out the goal.
