GAA Community in mourning at the passing of former Limerick manager

Former Limerick Senior Football manager Liam Kearns suddenly sadly passed away on Sunday evening. He was the Offaly manager at the time with the side just two points off the promotion places in Division 3.

Kearns was an integral part of the development of Limerick football in the 00s, guiding the U21s to an All-Ireland final against Tyrone whilst also leading the senior side to back-to-back Munster Finals against his native Kerry.

An All-Ireland minor winner with Kerry in 1980, Kearns subsequently represented the Kingdom at U21 and senior level.

In a statement released on their website on Sunday evening, Offaly GAA said,

“Offaly GAA is devastated to learn of the sudden passing this evening of our senior football manager, Liam Kearns”.

“In his short period of time as manager of the senior footballers, Liam made a hugely positive impact and he was extremely well respected by everyone associated with Offaly GAA.

“Offaly GAA extend deepest sympathies to his wife Angela and daughters Rachel and Laura. May he rest in peace.”

He was remembered fondly by peers and former players on social media as the news emerged.

May he rest in peace.
