Gaelic Games and Soccer could return to action as part of the 4th phase of easing the Covid-19 restrictions. It opens the door for Limerick club and inter-county action to resume later in the summer.
Addressing the nation earlier this evening, An Taoiseach, Leo Varadkhar announced 5 phase plan would be implemented to ease restrictions over the coming months in a bid to open up the country.
The current restrictions have been extended until March 18th with a stage of the 5-phase plan being rolled out every three weeks thereafter.
Golf courses, and some non contact individual sports such as tennis and squash where social distancing can be maintained are expected to be permitted in the first phase commencing on May 18th.
Phase 2 will see small sports teams and groups being permitted to engage in non contact sporting and fitness activities but only for training and fitness purposes.
Due to commence on June 29th, phase 3 will allow behind closed doors sporting activities to take place where participants can maintain social distancing.
Phase 4 would see GAA and soccer teams allowed to resume games but with limitations on the amount of spectators present and where social distancing between those spectators can be maintained.
Stage 5 is set to commence on August 10th allowing the return of close contact sports like boxing and rugby. Gyms and other sporting clubs and organisations will be permitted to open provided effective cleaning and social distancing is maintained.
