Highlights | Ireland off to a flying start with bonus point win in Six Nations opener

An impressive four try win for the boys in green gives the team a strong start in the Guinness Six Nations.

Ireland looked to avenge their bitter defeat to Wales in this tournament last year, and 29-7 win this time out certainly helped achieve that. It was a very dominant performance for most of the game as Andy Farrells side mixed attacking fair with a brutish defensive effort.

The game started fast as not 70 seconds had elapsed in the clash when Mack Hansen turned a deflected Johnny Sexton kick into a break up the left wing. The Test newcomer stole a march on Louis Rees-Zammit and threatened from his own chip and chase. The move didn’t come off but it was a sign of good things to come.

The deadlock was broken just moments later. Ireland attacked crisply off the lineout with Caelan Doris and Tadhg Furlong punching holes. Tadhg Beirne pull-back pass and a lofted Hansen delivery put Bundee Aki over in the left corner.

Ireland couldn’t add to that tally with another try before the break, leading 10-0 at the interval. However, the second half was a much more clinical performance from the Irish side.

Munster wing Andrew Conway added a pair of tries shortly after the restart with Garry Ringrose securing the bonus with a brilliant solo effort.

Wales had the final score of the game but that was with the result beyond doubt as Irish attention shifts to France this Saturday.
