HIGHLIGHTS | Munster squeeze past Connacht to stay unbeaten in the URC

Munster withstood a eager Connacht to secure a 20-18 win in Thomond Park

Munster found themselves on the back foot against their fellow countrymen early in their fourth round URC fixture against Connacht. Connacht out-half Jack Carty got the visitors on the board early with a penalty straight in front of the Munster posts.

Carty repeated the feat a number of minutes later to take Connacht 6 points up, however Connacht’s momentum would be disrupted with former Munster centre Sammy Arnold going to the sin-bin.

Munster concluded the second half in a controversial fashion with back-row Chris Cloete regathering a cross-field kick from centre Rory Scannell and controlled by Tadhg Beirne to score Munster’s first try of the game, despite the call for the try to be reversed due to Beirne’s off-side position.

Munster’s Joey Carbery was the first to get point’s on the board in the second half in the form of a penalty, his efforts would be bettered by Connacht number 8 Paul Boyle, who crashed over for Connacht’s first try of the game.

Carbery stayed consistent off the tee as he regained the lead for Munster, yet Munster would hand that lead back to Connacht as Jack Carty charged down a kick from his opposite number to canter under the posts for Connacht’s second try.
