Holders Crescent College in knockout Senior Cup action with Ardscoil Rís meeting St Munchins in all-Limerick derby

Limerick’s contingent in the 2022/23 Senior Cup is down to three with holders Cresent College among those.

Three Limerick sides will be in School’s Senior Cup action this Tuesday in a Thomond Park double header. Ardscoil Rís take on St Munchins in the opener with Cresent College Comprehensive facing Bandon Grammar School later this afternoon.

The first contest will determine the first semi-finalist while the second encounter is a knockout clash.

Ardscoil Rís, St Munchins and holders Cresent College are Limerick’s remaining representatives in the competition with Glenstal Abbey and Castletroy College eliminated earlier this month. Glenstal were beaten by Coláiste Pobail Bheanntraí while Bandon Grammar school knocked out Castletroy College.

The Cork school will now turn their attention to the defending champions Cresent College as they meet at 3.30pm in Thomond Park. Last year, Cresent claimed a 12th title and first since 2014 when they beat PBC 26-5 in Limerick. The winners of today’s contest will advance to the quarters with the losers eliminated.

However, Ardscoil Ris and St Munchins are safe in the knowledge that their season will continue past today regardless of the outcome in their 1pm clash. After finishing in the top two in the round-robin prior to the turn of the new year, they will meet to determine the first of the semi-final berths. The losers will advance to the quarters.

On Wednesday afternoon in Musgrave Park, CBC and PBC meet to determine the second semi-finalist while Rockwell College take on Colaiste Pobail Bheanntrai the following afternoon for a place in the quarters.
