“Important change to sporting events” sees increase to 500 fans allowed attend Inter-county games

Inter-county games will now host up to 500 spectators to enter stadiums with a capacity of 5,000 or more from this week. The minister of state for sports has agreed to move forward plans to increase fan numbers in GAA action 48 hours before the initial date.

With the increase not expected in fan attendance until Monday, the plans to allow for more fans will now take place this coming Saturday.

The result of this decision means the Munster SHC semi-final, Ulster SFC quarter final and Leinster SFC fixtures will now allow more in attendance than the previous 200 up to this point.

Minister for sport Jack Chambers stated “Small but important change for sporting events. The increase in spectator numbers is applicable from this Saturday July 3rd to facilitate increased attendances at matches this weekend. Further proposals on increasing capacity & matches are being developed for July and august”.

The decision was made to cater for what will be a busy weekend of inter- county games across the country. The attendance will mean it is the biggest crowd for a sporting event in Ireland since the impact of COVID-19.

The increase in numbers will be a welcome addition to this weekend’s games.

Next weekends clash involving Limerick and Cork will also have an attendance of 500 in their Munster football semi-final.
