Inaugural Primary School Cricket Blitz proves a success in Limerick

Limerick Cricket Club held the first-ever Limerick Primary School Blitz last Saturday afternoon.

The blitz focused on schools in the city with the motive of spreading the game of cricket around Limerick.

After conducting cricket coaching sessions in schools in Limerick for the past 3 months, 6 teams from four different schools took part in the tournament.

The winners of each pool battled it out in a final to be crowned to inaugural champions.

Scoil Mháthair Dé , Limerick Educate Together National School and St Nessans were among the schools who took part in the blitz.

After three rounds of games where teams won by close margins, Scoil Mháthair Dé and Limerick Educate Together National School locked horns in the final with the latter winning the trophy by just one run and securing the Limerick Cricket Club Primary School Blitz trophy.

It was a fun-filled day for the kids and the parents also who showed full interest.

Councillor James Collins (Cathaoirleach of the Metropolitan District of Limerick) and Cllr. Abdul Kalam Azad Talukder were on hand to award the trophies to the winners.

Limerick Cricket Club would like to offer big thanks to the parents who were equally excited as the kids in showing their full support and a few parents who went on to volunteer for the event acting as a bridge between the kids and the club.
