Ireland sweep the board at World Rugby Awards

After an incredible 2018 where they defeated every team they faced, Ireland have been duly recognised at the World Rugby Awards.

In a season where they won the Grand Slam, a first Series Win in Australia and an undefeated November Series that saw a first home defeat over New Zealand, Ireland have been awarded Team of the Year.

After leading his team into second place in the World Rankings, Joe Schmidt was awarded Coach of the Year with New Zealand’s strangle hold on top spot in the world in serious jeopardy.

To round off the night, Johnny Sexton was acknowledged as World Rugby Player of the Year for 2018 where he won a Grand Slam, Pro 14 and Champions Cup. Suffering from layngitis, Rory Best spoke on behalf of the Leinster Out Half.
