“It would mean everything” | Dromcollogher Broadford’s Kevin Noonan longing for a return to senior football ahead of IFC final

Last year’s quarter-finalists have been out of action in the Senior Football Championship for two seasons.

Dromcollogher Broadford will be looking to get their name back in the fold for the Senior Football Championship as they prepare to take on Na Piarsaigh in the IFC final.

Drom. Broadford have enjoyed a relatively successful campaign so far, with a loss against Rathkeale in the group stages being the only blot on their record as they recorded victories in the remaining fixtures, including a semi-final win over St. Senan’s.

A team they haven’t faced in a couple of years, however, is their IFC final opponents Na Piarsaigh. Both sides were playing senior just two years ago where they would be a regular fixture but it’s the first meeting since their 2020 relegation semi-final.

Drom. Broadford’s Kevin Noonan believes that there’s not much to split the two outfits based on their previous encounters and that Saturday’s final will prove no different.

“We’ve had a good few battles with Na Piarsaigh, I think there’s only kind of been a point or two either way. I know they beat us two years ago in the relegation semi-final I think it was by about two or three points that day so there’s nothing really between the two teams.”

Their relegation in 2020 brought a prosperous tenure at senior level to an end for Dromcollogher Broadford who had been a main stay at the level, winning their last title in 2013.

That was the last of seven since the turn of the century as they also became the first Limerick side to claim Munster senior honours.

And Noonan is hoping they can return to the top tier on Saturday with the squad consisting of players that have played at that level for the majority of their career.

“It would mean everything (to be back in senior). Our group of players are used to being up senior but we’re getting older now so we don’t really want to retire and leave it down in Intermediate so if we can get back up before we go we’d be delighted.”
