JKA World Championship coming to University of Limerick

The 14th Funakoshi Gichin Cup World Karate-do Championships will be hosted by at UL this week.

The championships are to be held by JKA Ireland this week. Before the championships kick off on Thursday, Limerick will also be hosting a World Gasshuku on the 15th and 16th.

A World Gasshuku is where a number of Karate masters teach classes to help improve students karate skills.

The Funakoshi Gichin Cup World Karate-do Championships are only held outside of Japan every six years so it is the first time they have ever been held in Ireland.

Sensei Noel Casey founded JKA in the early 1970’s and has worked very hard to bring many of the best Karate instructors to Ireland. This introduction of top class instructors has helped a lot of Irish students as well as increasing the standard of karate in Ireland.
