Limerick Celtics start their National League season with a win

Limerick Celtics have opened their new National League Men’s season with a great home win over Killarney in St Munchin Sportshall last Saturday.

Killarney took an early lead but with some good scores from Carlos Hortelano, David Bellinazona and Jordan Hehir Celtics brought themselves right back into the game and took the lead midway through the second quarter. It was basket for basket from then on with Kevin Oberweiser and Tommy Walsh combining well on offense.

Oberweiser controlled the tempo of the game and proved too much for the tough Killarney full-court press. Celtics entered the fourth quarter with a seven-point lead but Killarney reduced this to one point midway through the fourth.

Egidijus Baksys and Deividas Venchunas also added bit minutes to help the Limerick side hold onto the slender lead going into the final quarter. Killarney threw everything at Celtics in the closing minutes but some great scoring from Kevin Oberweiser and Carlos Hortelano ensured the opening league game win went to Celtics on the night.

The Celtics will travel to Ulster Elks on Saturday, September 28th in Belfast, at UUJ Sportshall. Tip-off is at 1:30 pm.
