Limerick District League Matches Suspended for 2 Weeks

The Limerick District League Committee have announced that matches have been suspended indefinitely for 2 weeks following the recent surge in Covid-19 cases across the country. The first round of the Lawson Cup and the last round of the Premier League were due to take place this weekend but have been cancelled due to the rise in cases and the threat to player welfare.

There were several requests from clubs to postpone games due to the absence of a number of players and the LDMC have followed in the footsteps of their Munster Football Association counterparts who suspended action in the Munster Junior and Youth Cups until February. The Limerick District League will return on the weekend of January 22/23rd.

The short statement supplied by Turlough McNamara read:

“Due to the ongoing Covid19 situation,  in the last few hours, the fixture secretary has received numerous calls from many clubs regarding covid cases, close contacts and self isolation, with this in mind :- the LDL has decided to SUSPEND ALL FOOTBALL FOR THIS SUNDAY 8TH JAN AND ALSO SUNDAY 15TH JAN .”
