The Cappamore native reached the third round of the World Darts Championship for the second time in late December.
Ireland’s premier darts player William O’Connor has climbed into the top 40 in the PDC Order of Merit after reaching the third round of the World Darts Championship last month.
O’Connor was eventually beaten by Michael Smith 4-2 in the Alexandra Palace with the English man going on to contest the final earlier this week.
O’Connor performance against Smith is another indicator of the 35 year old’s progress as he continues to rise up the rankings, now ahead of former two time world champion Adrian Lewis and five ahead of Irish teammate Steve Lennon. Carlow’s Lennon was beaten by Mervyn King at this year’s world championships.
Elsewhere, Peter Wright’s second world title has put him within touching distance of Gerwyn Price at the top of the OoM while Michael van Gerwen drifts further back after withdrawing from the tournament with covid.
Finalist Michael Smith moves up to fifth while James Wade is now at fourth.
