Limerick FC face the long trip to face Donegal outfit Cockhill Celtic in the last 32 of the FAI Senior Cup. The tie will be played on the weekend ending August 12.
Cockhill are based in Buncrana and Limerick FC will not have fond memories of Donegal having been relegated in 2015 at the home of Finn Harps. The club have regularly competed in the EA Sports Cup in recent seasons.
It will be a tough tie for the Super Blues as Cockhill are a well respected side who compete in a highly competitive Ulster Senior League. Following last year’s run to the semi-final under Neil McDonald which ultimately ended in defeat at the hands of eventual winners Cork City, Limerick manager Tommy Barrett will be hoping his side can advance to the latter stages of the competition once again.
Limerick junior club Pike Rovers will also compete in the last 32 of the competition having beaten Avondale 0-2 in the round of 64. Pike were eligible for the FAI Senior Cup as they were beaten finalists in the FAI Junior Cup. Mick Shiel’s side were rewarded with a trip to first division leaders UCD as they bid to create an upset.
