GAA
The decade that was 2010-2019 is fast coming to an end.
For the Limerick hurlers, it was a mixed decade that started with a protest but would ultimately deliver a first All-Ireland title in 45 years.
Overall, Limerick won one All-Ireland title, Two Munster Championships, a Division 1 League Title and A Division 2 League title.
Over the next fifteen days in the lead up to Christmas, I will select my team of the decade that saw Limerick play 40 championship games and 68 League games.
Already we have had our Goalkeeper;
Right Corner Back, Full Back & Left Corner Back,
Right Half-Back, Centre Back & Left Half Back;
On Christmas Day Cian Lynch and Paul Browne were named in midfield;
We had our right wing forward, centre forward & left wing forward;
Today we have the first of our full forward line.
Right Corner Forward
Aaron Gillane
Patrickswell
2017-Present
Honours: All Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, Munster Senior Hurling Championship, Division 1 League Title, 2x U21 All Ireland Hurling Championships, 2x Munster U21 Hurling Championshisp, 2x Munster Minor Hurling Championship, Senior All-Star, U21 Hurler of the Year, U21 All-Star.
Although he was a constant presence in Limerick underage teams during the early part of the decade, it was not until his Fitzgibbon Cup campaign of 2016 with Mary I that Gillane came into his own.
Since then he has been electric for both club and county, firmly establishing himself as one of the premier forwards in the country.
He debuted for the seniors in 2017, earned his starting berth the follwoing year before catching fire in 2019.
His performances over the past summer saw him earn a first All-Star as he almost single handily dragged Limerick into a second consecutive All-Ireland final.
At just 23, there is so much more to come from Gillane.
Honourable Mentions: Peter Casey
After playing a huge part of the bench in the run to the All-Ireland final in 2018, Casey nailed down a starting place last summer. A year younger than Gillane with a bright future ahead.
