Limerick name team for Munster Hurling Championship opener | TEAM NEWS

The Shannonsiders carry immense threat in the corners, with Hurler of the Year Aaron Gillane named in one, and creator-in-chief Cian Lynch deployed in the other.

John Kiely has named his Limerick side to take on Clare in the opening round of the Munster Hurling Championship on Sunday at 2pm in Cusack Park.

Brian Lohan’s men won their first trophy under his guidance recently, as they defeated Kilkenny in the Allianz League final in Thurles.

Fergal O’Connor, Colin Coughlan and Mike Casey missed Limerick’s league semi-final loss to the Cats through injury, and the trio returned to the matchday squad for this one, Casey starting at corner-back.

Declan Hannon captains the side from centre-back, with Cathal O’Neill joining Will O’Donoghue in the middle of the park. Darragh O’Donovan misses out through injury.

Nickie Quaid starts in goal, with Barry Nash and Dan Morrissey joining Casey in the full-back line.

Hannon is named at six, flanked by Diarmaid Byrnes and Kyle Hayes.

O’Neill partners O’Donoghue in midfield, with David Reidy named at centre-forward. Gearoid Hegarty and Tom Morrissey assume their familiar half-forward roles, with Seamus Flanagan named at full-forward.
