Limerick pair selected on the GAA.ie Hurling Team of the Week as Treaty secure Munster final berth

Limerick earned their spot in a fourth consecutive Munster final with a draw in Ennis on Sunday.

Limerick duo Diarmaid Byrnes and William O’Donoghue have been chosen on the GAA.ie Team of the Week after helping the Shannonsiders into a fourth successive Munster final.

In what will be a rematch in the Munster decider, there was nothing to separate Limerick and Clare in Cusack Park as the game finished 0-24 to 1-21.

Incredibly, Byrnes is named for the third time in four weeks after another spellbinding display. The Patrickswell man hit 0-9 on the day, including the leveller in injury time. Eight of those came from placed balls with the wing-back once again flawless over frees and 65’s, while adding one from play to boot.

He is joined on the team by William O’Donoghue who looked back to his best after a below par display against Tipperary. The Na Piarsaigh native was everywhere on the park as he is named for the second time this year after being selected on the first team of the week alongside Byrnes.

Elsewhere on the team, Cork stormed back into the championship with a win over Waterford that puts them in pole position to qualify for the All-Ireland series. They have four chosen on the team in the form of Patrick Collins, Rob Downey, Mark Coleman and Seamus Harnedy.

Tony Kelly, who clipped over 0-16 (10f, 65′) against Limerick, is chosen alongside teammate Rory Hayes who was brilliant in curtailing Seamus Flanagan.

Kilkenny have three selected after their comprehensive win over Dublin while there is one each from Tyrone, Westmeath, Offaly and Galway.
