Limerick receive Nine All-Star Hurling nominations

Limerick has received a total of nine 2019 PwC All-Stars hurling nominations off the back of a successful year, claiming both Allianz League and Munster Senior Hurling titles.

The final selection of 15 players will be made late next month and all players will be honoured at a banquet in Dublin on Friday, November 1st.

Limerick’s entire full-back line of Sean Finn, Mike Casey and Richie English has made the shortlist, while midfielders Cian Lynch and William O’Donoghue are nominated among six midfielders named.

There are four Limerick nominations in the forwards: Kyle Hayes and the entire full-forward line of Peter Casey, Graeme Mulcahy and Aaron Gillane.

Sean Finn, Richie English, Cian Lynch and Graeme Mulcahy are among the six 2018 All-Stars that have received nominations for the 2019 awards, while William O’Donoghue and Peter Casey get their first nominations.

Meanwhile, Kyle Hayes has made the short-list of three for Young Hurler of the Year Award alongside Killkenny’s Adrian Mullen and Wexford’s Rory O’Connor. Hayes took home the Young Hurler of the Year Award in 2018.

2019 All-Ireland champions, Tipperary, lead the way with 11 nominations in total. Kilkenny and Limerick have nine each, while Wexford has been honoured with eight nominations.

The counties of Laois, Cork, Dublin and Galway have received two nominations each.

GAA President John Horan acknowledged all of those players selected, saying:

“Congratulations to all 45 players who have secured a place on the short-list of nominations for the PwC Hurling All-Stars and those selected for Player of the Year awards also, after what was another great year for the game”.

“The standards set by the names on the lists helped drive the quality of the games we witnessed over the course of 2019 and I look forward to deliberations that will accompany the final selection of players in the weeks ahead before the awards are presented at the start of November.”
