Limerick sides meet in top of the table clash while both women’s sides also in action

The Men and Women’s Division One return this weekend following a weekend break to facilitate cup fixtures.

The Limerick derby between the Celtics and the Sport Huskies is the pick of the bunch this weekend in terms of fixtures as the National Basketball Leagues make their return.

This follows a semi-successful cup weekend for the three Limerick sides competing, with the Celtics men’s getting a bye to the quarter-finals. The Sport Eagles were knocked out with heavy 97-50 defeat to Moy Tolka Rovers while there was a first win this season for the Sport Huskies as they beat the Marble City Hawks 55-48. The Limerick Celtics women’s also progressed with a home victory over SETU Carlow.

Attention is now turned back to the domestic competition with a top of the table clash between the Limerick Celtics and Limerick Sport Eagles taking the main event. The two will meet in Dooradoyle with an opportunity for one team to push ahead of the other. Both sides are level on points as the top two with Moy Tolka Rovers and Drogheda Wolves sharing the spoils in a four-way leadership.

That game tips off at 7pm.

Simultaneously, the Limerick Celtics will be hosting Moy Tolka Rovers with the Celtics breathing down the necks of the top two. Their loss earlier in the campaign is the only blot on their impressive record as they look to build on their recent form.

The Limerick Sport Huskies are also back in domestic action after two vacant weekends as they travel to Kerry to face St. Paul’s Killarney. A cup victory over the Marble City Hawks will provide a huge boost of confidence as they remain on the hunt for their first win of the league campaign.
