Limerick Sport Eagles remain top after Limerick derby win while both Women’s sides suffer defeats

The Men and Women’s Division One basketball leagues returned this weekend after a week hiatus to facilitate the cup.

Round six of the National Basketball leagues took place over the weekend with the four Limerick outfits in men and women’s Division One action.

The highly-anticipated Limerick derby took place on Saturday evening with both the Celtics and the Sport Eagles heading into the affair as the top two teams after five games.

And it was the Sport Eagles that earned the local bragging rights with a 99-82 victory to go three points ahead of their neighbours. Once again, it was Manny Payton that stole the show with an impressive 32-point haul to give the Sport Eagles their fifth win of the campaign.

Meanwhile, both the Limerick Celtics women’s and the Limerick Sport Huskies were on the losing side in their clashes over the weekend.

Moy Tolka Rovers bested the Celtics 61-53 in Limerick while the Sport Huskies continue to search for their first win following their 85-43 away defeat to St. Paul’s Killarney.

All sides return to action again this weekend.
