Limerick Sport Eagles stay in the hunt for top spot, Celtics recover but defeat for Women’s sides

Each of the four Limerick basketball sides were in action this weekend for week 7 of the National Basketball leagues.

The Limerick Sport Eagles continued their scintillating form in the Men’s Division One basketball league as they claimed their sixth win from seven over the weekend.

This time it was a narrow 88-82 home victory over Dwyer’s of Cork Fr. Matthews that gave them the win and the three points. It’s been a number of weeks running now where Manny Peyton has dominated the scoring charts for the Limerick side, this time sinking 22.

The Limerick Celtics bounced back from their derby defeat to the the Sport Eagles the week previous with a dominant 96 – 63 victory over SETU Waterford Vikings. Celtics star Joshua Reynolds lead the scoring for the game with 36 points as they keep within three points of their neighbours.

It was different fortunes for both of the women’s sides as they were both on the losing side for consecutive weekends.

The Limerick Celtics were narrowly edged by the unbeaten Portlaoise Panthers with the score ending 88-85. That leaves the Celtics in fifth place now and third in the South Conference.

Meanwhile, it’s been a season to forget so far for the Limerick Sport Huskies as they were beaten 63-56 against the Marble City Hawks. It was a maiden victory for the Hawks, leaving the Sport Huskies rooted to the bottom as the only side yet to find a victory this season.
