Munster lifted the Women’s Interprovincial Championship title on Saturday following a tight win over defending champions Leinster.
Adam Griggs side came into the game three points ahead of Munster and boasted a superior score difference.
Munster and UL Bohemian prop Fiona Reidy says that the timing of her sides scores was crucial.
“At half time we knew we had to win by 6 points, at that stage we were up 6 nil. I think the fact that we scored at crucial times in the game was critical.”
Gaining the lead put massive pressure on the defensive capabilities Laura Guest’s side against a dangerous Leinster outfit who held the majority of the possession late in the game, as they attempted to overcome an 11-5 deficit.
“It was huge and something that we’ve been working on and focusing on. After we lost to Connacht in the first game, it probably made us step it up a gear. It was something we’ve been focusing on in training, we went hell for leather and it paid off in the end.”

Munster lost out in their first game away to Connacht but did manage to take a losing bonus point home. Reidy agrees that this was a major factor in the title win.
“That losing bonus point is really what won it for us, it kept us in the title race. We just had to get out there and play well, hold onto that ball and punish Leinster at time when it was on, and defend for our lives when it wasn’t. There’s just that grit and determination about the side, we never give up we just keep fighting for each other.”
Reidy is a part of women’s AIL table toppers and defending champions UL Bohemians, between club and provincial commitments, it’s been a hectic few months, the front row is looking forward to a few days off before getting stuck right back into the thick of things.
“It’s been going very well with the club. We’ve been on the trot, I think since the start of November because we had the Railway re-fixed game. I’ll take a few days off and get back stuck back into it before the New Year and then get back to pitch training the first week in January.
