Munster injury update: Bleyendaal & Niall Scannell require further assessment.
With 45 players involved at the weekend across the Champions Cup and British and Irish Cup the medical team reported a clean bill of health following Saturday’s B&I Cup win against Ospreys Premiership Select while Tyler Bleyendaal and Niall Scannell require further assessment after the draw against Castres at Stade Pierre Antoine on Sunday.
Hooker Niall Scannell, replaced after 54 minutes by Rhys Marshall, will undergo a scan for a thumb injury, while outhalf Tyler Bleyendaal, who was replaced four minutes later by Ian Keatley, will follow suit and undergo a scan for a neck injury.
Academy lock Sean O’Connor, who was in action for Munster A in Swansea, reported no ill effects after completing the full 80 following a neck injury sustained against Glasgow in the PRO14.
Jean Kleyn’s progress continues to be managed by the medical team as he follows return to play rehabilitation for a neck injury also sustained in the Scotstoun fixture, while Darren O’Shea (shoulder) continues to take part in modified training.
Continuing to rehab: Gerbrandt Grobler (ankle), Conor Oliver (shoulder), Dan Goggin (knee), Ronan O’Mahony (fibula), Dave O’Callaghan (knee) and Jaco Taute (knee).
On an arrival front, Pumas flanker Chris Cloete will link up with the squad this week on completion of his Currie Cup commitments on Friday night, and new head coach Johann van Graan will be in Limerick this week making arrangements for his young family as they prepare for the upcoming move from South Africa.
