Munster Rugby have confirmed that South African lock Gerbrandt Grobler is expected to be side-lined until the new year after undergoing surgery for the ankle injury he sustained in the preseason game against Worcester Warriors.
The highly rated ex-Racing 92 second row was brought in to replace Donnacha Ryan, however Munster will now need to plan without the Nelspruit native for four out of six Champions Cup pool games, should he not return until the 2018.
While, following Saturday’s comprehensive Guinness PRO14 victory against Cheetahs in Thomond Park. Front row Dave Kilcoyne, who finished the game following his introduction from the bench, requires further assessment after sustaining a knock to his knee.
The prop made his first appearance of the season when replacing academy player Liam O’Connor after 57 minutes and is the only injury concern after the round two victory.
