Neil McDonald set to be unveiled as Limerick FC’s new boss

It is strongly rumoured that Neil McDonald will be confirmed as the new Limerick FC boss at tomorrow morning’s press conference.

McDonald was a former assistant coach at Hull as well as a brief period with Blackpool and a caretaker role at Blackburn.

He also enjoyed a successful playing career with spells at Newcastle, Everton, Oldham, Bolton and Preston.

McDonald’s appointment is due to be confirmed at a press briefing at the Markets Field, an event that Sporting Limerick will be live streaming on our Facebook page from 10am tomorrow morning.

McDonald’s first game in charge of sixth-placed Limerick will come against Premier Division champions Dundalk at the Markets Field on Friday night, 7.45pm.

The Englishman has also worked with former Limerick and ex-England manager Sam Allardyce, currenty manager of Crystal Palace, at Bolton Wanderers, Blackburn Rovers and West Ham United.

It brings to an end a long period of uncertainly for Limerick FC fans since the sacking of Martin Russell back in April and also concluded Willie Boland’s time as interim boss.

Boland will revert back to his original academy role.
