On This Day: The Limerick hurlers round off their League campaign with a win over Laois

March 22

On this day six years ago, Limerick concluded their National Hurling League campaign with a 1-25 to 1-19 win over Laois in Kilmallock.

2015

TJ Ryan’s Limerick produced a comeback win over Laois to cement their place in second in Division 1B of the National Hurling League.

Zach Kennan gave the visitors the perfect start as he goaled from a penalty inside the opening two minutes.

Seanie Tobin had Limerick’s response with two frees as the Shannonsiders had to wait until the 22nd minute to get their first score from play.

At this stage Laois were 1-6 to 0-5 clear but a strong finish to the half had Limerick trailing by two at the break.

A brace from centre-back Declan Hannon had Limerick level after 39 minutes. Thomas O’Brien pushed Limerick ahead for the first time minutes later.

He would then put the game beyond Laois’ reach with a goal ten minutes from time as he added to his three points over the course of the 70.

In the end, the margin was six but it would count for little for a Limerick side that missed out on promotion to the top tier.

They were drawn to face Dublin in the quarter-finals of the League a week later.
