Regional United’s bid to be re-instated following their dismissal from the FAI Junior Cup has failed following a hearing in front of the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
Regional had defeated favourites Sheriff YC in sensational circumstances in the quarter-final at Dooradoyle. Sheriff YC were 2-0 up but an incredible comeback in the final five minutes and a further goal in extra-time set up a famous 3-2 win.
However, it emerged after the game that the Dublin club had put in an objection on the grounds that Regional striker Sosuke Kimura, was playing illegally.
Sheriff were re-instated after a hearing in front of the FAI Junior Council but the Limerick club appealed the decision. The FAI Senior Council upheld the decision made by their junior counterparts but Regional decided to take the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
As of this evening, the Arbitrators upheld the initial decision and Sheriff will now face Aisling Annacotty at the Clontarf Sports Complex on Sunday at 2pm with Regional bowing out.
