The “Relay2Croker” initiative was founded by Limerick pair Eoghan Mulcahy (Mungret) and Ciaran O’Mara (Ahane) to help support the ALONE charity during isolation.
ALONE provides Housing with Support, Support Coordination, Befriending, BConnect training and technology, and Campaigns for Change to hundreds of older people every week, who are homeless, socially isolated, living in deprivation or in crisis.
The initiative encourages clubs to run a relay race the equivalent distance of Hayes’ Hotel in Thurles to Croke Park, with players each running a share of the distance all within the 2km radius of their home.
Participants can then log onto the “Relay2Croker” website where they can log their run.
From that link they can also donate to the charity.
While those who run the relay are encouraged to nominate people from different clubs, your club does not have to be nominated to start the relay!
All-Ireland Winner and All-Star Dan Morrisseey is one of the latest to get on board with the initiative.
